What's Black and Red and Hot All Over?

What’s black and red and hot all over? Reiss's new dresses: the Alison and Kori! These dresses are fit for a party queen and sure to get you noticed at this year’s hottest holiday parties. The Alison dress is hip and modern with its crisp white detachable collar and cuffs. The red sequins give it that extra holiday glitz. If you’re more classic, the Kori sequined LBD is for you. But trust me, this is no ordinary dress, with its swooping neckline and pleated detailing on the skirt. Are you already planning your holiday party wear?

Drop Waist Drama

Someone once told me to save my clothes because fashion is cyclical and things always come back in style. This could not be truer for the drop waist dress. And while I will not be sporting my mom’s drop waist dress from circa 1985, today's more updated versions are flirty and chic. With the holidays fast approaching, why not update your party style with one of these beauties?

I love unexpected color combos, so I will be dedicating a weekly post to great color pairings. In this weeks post I am focusing on pink and burgundy. These two colors work really well together. By combining blush tones to rich reds you are adding eye catching depth to an outfit. I would love some ideas on other color combinations to feature, so please leave me a comment below with color combos you would like to see!

Fisherman's Sweater 4 Ways

Anyone who has ever lived in or is from England will know that there is a very good possibility you could be wearing a sweater all year. Now that I have moved to a slightly warmer, more predictable climate (Atlanta, Georgia), I find myself missing those cold rainy English days, all bundled up in a sweater. I love the fisherman's sweater - there is something very Hemingwayesque about it. Not only is the fisherman's sweater a must for the colder months, it can also be worn in a variety of ways. How would you wear this beautiful Reiss sweater?

Massimo Dutti: European Style Comes to America

The universe must know that I am missing my European life as one of my favorite brands has made it to this side of the pond. Massimo Dutti is clean, sleek European style. I discovered this store while living in Berlin and quickly found myself wandering in their Friedrichstraße location more frequently than I care to admit. I particularly like their boy-meets-girl shoes, made more feminine with a bit of glitter and other adornments. Have a look at all the amazing things this brand has to offer. Check out their website for a little online retail therapy here, or visit their new NYC location on Fifth Avenue! Happy Monday Shopping!

Shop Zara Home

While living in London, one of my favorite places to shop for chic home goods was Zara Home. Already being my ‘go to’ place for amazing clothes and shoes, it was no surprise that I would fall in love with Zara’s home goods concept. Being a student and/or working in my first job, I had limited funds but still wanted my space to be as stylish as financially possible. The great thing about Zara Home is that it offers a designer feel for an affordable price. Now that I have moved back to the US I am very happy that I can fill my new life with an old favorite. Visit Zara Home's new US website here, and check out all of the amazing pieces!

Adorn Your Collar

At the beginning of the summer, while strolling through Forever 21, I spotted a rhinestone collar necklace. Four months later, it has become my most worn piece of jewelry. The most chic way to wear this piece is layered under a buttoned-up collared shirt. These necklaces add instant detail and dimension to any outfit.

Faux Leather VS Real Leather

Ever since the first hint of the fall season I have been doing my research on leather pants (a staple for this season). The major question for me was: do I buy the real deal or go down the faux route? I did my research and heard many convincing arguments from both sides. Faux leather is inexpensive, animal friendly and, if in the end you decide leather pants are not for you, not a big loss. On the other hand, real leather feels amazing and looks much richer. The cons for real leather are that leather can stretch and lose its shape, you need to bring them to a specialty cleaner and they cost a fortune! In the end I chose a pair of faux leather pants from H&M, and to be honest, I think they are just as good as any real pair I have tried on (plus they can be washed in the washer)!

Mix Your Prints!

Mixing different prints is one of my favorite ways to add a little spice to my outfits. Sometimes it seems as if people are conditioned to think that print mixing is a fashion don't. It’s a huge fashion do! It can be a bit tricky but it’s all about having fun and trial and error. If you’re not too sure about it, take baby steps – try a striped shirt with leopard print shoes. Check out Karla's look at Karla's Closet  here. The pattern is broken up by the bottoms and makes the mix more subdued. If you’re a bit bolder, try mixing animal print with a winter floral. I can't get enough of this combo and have seen it on everyone from Oliva Palermo to Blair Eadie
of Atlantic-Pacific; check out their looks here and here. What are your thoughts on mixing prints?
If you aren't already, follow me on Pinterest and Twitter!

Rock The Coat

Any fashionista will tell you that she cannot own just one coat. Once the cold weather comes around your coat will be what every stranger on the street and rider on the train will see. Don't get stuck into the boring black coat rut. My advice is to invest in one classic coat, think charcoal grey or camel, as an alternative to black. If you have a bit of extra cash, also invest in a trendier coat; the military-style comes back every season. I also love the idea of a classic coat updated with leather sleeves or trimmings. Good quality will ensure that your coat will be with you for many seasons. Accessorizing your outerwear is just as important as styling any normal outfit and can change the look of your coat. Don't let your winter wear be an afterthought. Find inspiration to make those cold days more stylish than ever!

Audrey Hepburn Inspiration

One of my favorite actresses of all time is Audrey Hepburn. I grew up watching old films with my mom and sister and fell in love with the glamour of the Hollywood stars. I feel like my style has two very distinct personalities. On one side I am very classic, tailored and paired down. On the other I tend to be more experimental with my look, for example, pairing a blue peplum top with leopard pants here. If all else fails, I channel my style icon, Audrey.

Foxy Lady

Every season it seems as if the equestrian trend is resurrected in some capacity. I remember a few years ago horse print was the thing, and I purchased a beautiful dress from Zara covered in a fox-hunt scene. It looked like one of those paintings you would find in an old pub. Someone even stopped me and asked, "Are those horses on your dress?" Yes they were, and I loved it! This year it seems as if the trend has focused on the fox. That sly little fox is making his appearance on everything from scarves to bracelets to the front of your sweater.

Weekend Wants: NYFW

Sadly, I am not at NYC Fashion Week this year. But if I was, you would find outside Lincoln Center wearing this. I have had my eye on this Reiss dress since the day it appeared on the website. I am also having a jewelry love affair with the new Loren Hope collection- check it out here. The Roxy Earrings are to die for! If you are, or could be, strutting your stuff at NYFW, what would you be wearing?

So happy to be included in Independent Fashion Bloggers, Links A LA Mode again! Check out the other blogs below.

Enter Fashion Week

Edited by: Victoria of vmac+cheese There must be something in the air this week. Something that made bloggers think more about their own personal style and pull out all the stops to look unique, creative, and fabulous. Hmm…I can’t think what that might be…? Between multiple blogging conferences in NYC and the kick off of Fashion Week (what, you hadn’t heard?), it was clear that this week, style bloggers were ready to bring it. Read on for fantastic posts on fall trends, and a healthy dose of street style fashion too. Just because you’re not in New York doesn’t mean you can’t pretend!

Au Natural

I once read somewhere that women look their most beautiful with their natural hair texture, a notion very few of us follow. We wavy-haired girls want perfect spiral curls or glossy straight hair, while the straight-haired girls are dying for more volume and the curly-haired girls think, ‘if only my hair could be straight...’ When it comes to hair, as with most other things, we want what we don't or can’t have. So my challenge to you all is to embrace your natural hair texture even if that means going without the straightener, blow-dryer or curling iron once a week. Embrace what nature gave you, go au naturale. Remember, more often than not, when you’re cursing yourself over your frizz or lack of volume, someone somewhere is wishing they had your hair!

If you are a wavy-haired girl like me, I find these to be the best products to use to reduce the frizz and create a defined curl.

Summer Lovin’ Fades to Fall

Edited by: Jess of Fresh Jess With IFBcon, Fashion’s Night Out and NYFW kicking off next week, it’s clear the first signs of fall in the air. The mornings and nights are a little crisper, and the shelves are stocked with September issues. This week’s Links a la Mode shows a wide range of emotions about the transition to fall. While some are welcoming the season with open arms, others are squeezing every little bit out of their summer wardrobe. The conversation around body image is still strong, as well as that over copyright and content ownership. We have all that and more in this week’s roundup, and next week at IFBcon! Hope to see you all there.

DIY Shirt In Action

Remember the DIY shirt that I did a few posts ago? If not check it out here. This is the shirt in action! I am really pleased with how it turned out and it has given me the confidence to try out some more DIY projects. I originally made this shirt to wear under sweaters in the colder months, but after a request to see what the shirt looked like on I styled it for the warmer weather! What do you think? Will you be making your own DIY stud collar?
